Beer Tasting at Jopenkerk
Amsterdam (Ijmuiden), The Netherlands

Beer Tasting at Jopenkerk

Taste Local Brews and Explore Haarlem on Foot Sample a selection of local beer at a former church and learn about its historic past. Set out on a short walking tour in Haarlem and pass some of the city’s hofjes , or almshouses, provided by Dutch cities since the 14th century to house single elderly women who—in many cases—have nowhere else to live. Step inside the Jopenkerk church and hear about its transformation into a microbrewery. Built in 1910, the church closed its doors in 1975 and soon became a place for local artists to gather and display their works. Local residents came together to save the building from demolition, and in 2010, the property was handed to a local brewery who set out to restore the building and open its doors once again. Enjoy a tasting of three local beers as you learn more about the brewing process and the history of the church. Afterward, return to your ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities. Activities by foot may contain difficult, unpaved surfaces and/or multiple stairs and steep inclines. Total time walking or standing may exceed 3 hours.
