Audubon State Park & Museum
Illustrations that Inspired Conservation Visit the Audubon Museum to see the work of a naturalist and view native birdlife at the Nature Center. Set off on a drive through Henderson, passing stately 19th-century homes that recall the town’s past on your way to the Audubon State Park, a preserved section of peaceful woodland. This land inspired naturalist John James Audubon, who spent nine years in the area studying and illustrating local birds. Upon arrival in the park, you will have free time to visit its museum, which displays an ample collection of Audubon’s work. As you explore, learn how these illustrations inspired early conservation efforts, which led to modern environmental stewardship. After, step inside the Nature Center, where you can see native birdlife and learn from staff members about conservation efforts in the area. Or, perhaps set out along one of the many forest paths to do some birding of your own. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines.
