Angkor Thom: Bayon Temple & Elephant Terrace

The Seat of an Empire Explore the fortified city of Angkor Thom, seeing its impressive Bayon Temple and stately Terrace of Elephants. Drive through the Cambodian countryside  to reach the Angkor archeological complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you will explore the fortified city of Angkor Thom, meaning “great city,” that dates back to the late 12th century and is known as the last capital of the Khmer Empire. Walk through the Bayon Temple and observe its iconic stone faces and bas-reliefs that portray life in this sprawling complex and scenes of battle. Continue to the Terrace of Elephants, a platform that was crafted for Angkor’s king to view his returning armies and as a place for public ceremonies. Spend time wandering this historic site and admiring the impressive architecture and intricate carvings that it has to offer. Afterward, transfer back to your hotel. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
