Schloss Anholt

A Stunning Medieval Fort Turned Baroque Castle Visit one of the region's most striking moated castles to learn about its storied past and explore its scenic grounds. Drive through the countryside to Anholt Castle, an impressive structure dating back to the 12th century and home to the House of Salm since 1641. Upon arrival, take in the red-brick castle, set in the middle of a moat dotted with lily pads. With your guide, step inside to learn about its history as a medieval fort and how it was transformed into a grand baroque residence for the Prince of Salm. See the stately library, the festive dining salon and the castle kitchen to glimpse how life is lived here. Next, head outside to explore the beautiful English-style park that surrounds the castle, walking along its winding paths and seeing its ponds. Stroll through the baroque garden, constructed in a geometric design based on French principles before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
