Dinner at Nikolaihof Winery

A Biodynamic Vineyard Explore a 2,000-year-old winery, uncover its holistic practices and sample its locally grown produce during dinner. Meet your guide and drive across the Danube River to Mautern, the historic gateway to the Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and renowned wine region. Arrive at the Nikolaihof Winery, which has been inhabited since 63 AD, making it one of the oldest wineries in Austria. Here, you will meet the owners, who will share the rich history of this ancient winery. Learn how it was one of the first in Europe to implement a biodynamic process, turning away from synthetic methods and using natural herbs and nettles to maintain their vineyards. Visit its cellar, where you can see its oak wine barrels and sample some of its wine. Finally, sit down for a dinner of seasonal dishes made from locally sourced game and produce, some of it grown right on the winery’s grounds. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines. Total time walking or standing is normally not longer than 1.5 hours.
