Medieval Regensburg

Visit the Old Town Hall and Explore the Historic Reichssaal Explore Regensburg and its Old Town Hall, which was built when the city was appointed a Free Imperial City in 1245. The Reichssaal building was added during the mid-14th century; this became the Seat of the Perpetual Diet from 1663 to 1806, assembling representatives from Imperial Estates whose purpose was to address matters of governance and affairs of the Holy Roman Empire. During a guided tour, learn more about its significance and the crucial role it played during this important period of European history. You will also descend to the building’s basement or Fragstatt , and discover an original torture chamber from the Middle Ages. View the tools and instruments used to intimidate prisoners and to revenge their wrongful doings. Hear tales of the horrors unleashed and stories of those who suffered their fate at the hands of their executioners. Afterward, walk back to your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
