The Sights and Tastes of Rouen

Local History and Regional Treats Explore Rouen, discovering some of its iconic landmarks and sampling the local fare. Disembark your ship and set off on a guided walk through the historic heart of Rouen. Begin by passing the Rouen Cathedral, a structure that has evolved over 800 years and features a blend of early Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles. Stroll past the Gros-Horloge, a 14th-century astronomical clock set in a Renaissance archway, and take in the half-timbered houses that line the cobblestoned streets. Learn the history of the area as you pass the Old Market Square, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. Pause at various boulangeries and patisseries to sample local treats and take in the atmosphere of Rouen’s café culture. Conclude your excursion at the Church of Saint Joan of Arc and choose to walk back to your ship with your guide or explore the town onyour own. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
