Speyer & Its Christmas Market

Take a Stroll Past Historic Landmarks and Browse for Gifts Learn about the Christmas traditions of the Rhineland Palatinate region during a walking tour of Speyer. Meet your guide at the pier and set off for a walk to explore one of Germany’s oldest cities. In the heart of the Old Town see the Romanesque Speyer Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and admire other striking architecture. By the Old Mint, you will visit the charming Christmas market. Wander amid the wooden stalls, draped with twinkling lights, and enjoy the delicious scent of the yuletide season, with offerings of baked sweet treats and steaming glühwein from decorative mugs. In the courtyard of the Town Hall, visit the Handwerkmarkt and browse for traditional wooden gifts and hand-painted ornaments. Perhaps see one of the artisans at work as you shop for the perfect memento to take home. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
