Wertheim Castle Hike
Picturesque Hilltop Ruins and Charming Medieval Town Admire the scenic vistas of medieval Wertheim during a hike to its namesake hilltop castle. Wertheim Castle is a picturesque ruin with a deep moat and impressive defensive fortifications. Originally constructed during the 12th century, the castle was repeatedly expanded until the 17th century; it has survived several serious explosions and bombardments during its existence. Meet your guide and stroll through Wertheim’s Old Town, past the historic market and along the half-timbered, Franconian-style homes. Walk up the hill to the castle to enjoy beautiful views of both Wertheim and the Tauber River. After, walk back down the hill and into town. Finish the guided portion of your tour at the Stiftskirche, a 14th-century Gothic-style church. Enjoy free time to explore more of Wertheim on your own before returning to your ship by foot with your guide, or via mini-train. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities. Activities by foot may contain difficult, unpaved surfaces and/or multiple stairs and steep inclines. Total time walking or standing
