Lovely Lüderitz

Art Nouveau Architecture on the South Atlantic Coast View Lüderitz’s German art nouveau architecture and learn about the history of this coastal town. Tucked between the Namib Desert and the South Atlantic coast, Lüderitz is a colonial relic scarcely touched by the 21st century. Stroll at your leisure past German colonial buildings reminiscent of a Bavarian village, including churches and cafés. Pass the Goerke Haus—an extravagant mansion built into the rock face on Diamond Hill at the turn of the 20th century during the diamond mining boom—and the Felsenkirche church, one of Namibia’s oldest Lutheran churches and a national monument. Next, visit the Lüderitz Museum to peruse displays on local Indigenous groups, natural history and the town’s diamond mining past. Continue on foot to the Namibia Maritime Museum, where you will also gain insight into the town’s maritime heritage, then return to your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
