Snapshot of Ghent by Boat
See City Highlights from the Water Discover medieval Ghent, one of Belgium’s most beautiful river ports, during a canal cruise. Embark on a scenic drive by motor coach through the Flemish countryside, to the capital of East Flanders. In the historic center, board your canal boat for a panoramic ride passing some of Ghent’s key sites. View the 13th-century Gravensteen, or “Castle of the Counts,” the old port and the fairy-tale St. Michael’s Bridge, adorned with a bronze statue of St. Michael with a writhing dragon at his feet. After your cruise, enjoy free time to explore. Perhaps stroll the narrow cobblestone streets and browse the stores with offerings of handicrafts or handmade fine chocolates. Or savor a Belgian beer (at your own expense) at a pavement café as you soak up the atmosphere. At the designated meeting place, return to your coach via canal boat, and onward to your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines.
