Highlights of Ghent & Lunch
Canal Cruise and Belgian Fare in Historic Center Explore the city of Ghent from the water and on foot, and savor lunch in a local restaurant. Drive through the Flemish countryside to medieval Ghent and embark a boat for a canal cruise through its historic center. View the 13th-century Gravensteen, or “Castle of the Counts,” the old port and the fairy-tale St. Michael’s Bridge, adorned with a bronze statue of St. Michael with a writhing dragon at his feet. After your cruise, head to a local restaurant for a delicious lunch of traditional Belgian fare. Your appetite sated, set off on foot to explore more of the city on your own. Perhaps browse the stores with offerings of handicrafts or handmade fine chocolates. Or savor a Belgian beer (at your own expense) at a pavement café as you soak up the atmosphere. At the designated meeting place, return to your motor coach via canal boat, and onward to your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
