El Pedral Penguin Colony & Patagonian Barbecue
Coastal Scenery and Penguin Watching Explore the rugged coastline and scenic vistas of Patagonia with a visit to Punta Ninfas and El Pedral. Located 45 miles southwest of Puerto Madryn, Punta Nifas is a promontory into the Atlantic Ocean. Punta Nifas and Península Valdés to the north form the Golfo Nuevo, a sheltered inlet that is home to an array of flora and fauna. Disembark at El Pedral, a hotel and former residence built in the early 20th century by Basque immigrants, and tour the rocky clifftops. As you walk, you may observe guanacos and foxes among the shrubby, windswept vegetation. From your lofty perch, you will see a small penguin colony that is starting to grow in this area before returning to El Pedral. There, you will enjoy a delicious barbecued Patagonian lamb lunch before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
