In Napoleon’s Footsteps

Explore the Life of Corsica’s Most Famous Son Explore the town of Napoleon Bonaparte’s birth, visiting a museum and landmarks commemorating his life. With your local guide, stroll through Place Foch, with its lively market and large statue of the emperor guarded by four lions. Stop at the Fesch Museum, Ajaccio’s central museum of fine arts, within the gated Palais Fesch. It was established by Napoleon’s uncle, Cardinal Joseph Fesch. Also visit the Baroque cathedral where Napoleon was christened in 1771. In the Old Town, explore Casa Bonaparte. The Bonaparte family’s ancestral home for centuries, it is now a museum. Many artifacts depict the emperor’s young life, including period furniture, personal belongings and correspondence. Following your visit, enjoy an aperitif at a local restaurant—after, you may choose to remain in town or return to your ship on foot. Please note: interior visits to the cathedral may not be possible during services. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
