Tipasa & the Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania

Stunning Remains from Ancient Civilizations Step outside Algiers to visit a remarkable royal tomb and a former outpost of the Roman Empire. Join your guide for a coastal drive to Tipasa, once a military colony of the Roman Empire that today is recognized by UNESCO. Throughout this extensive site, you will see remains of early Christian churches alongside cemeteries, bathhouses and the unusually shaped amphitheater. After your visit, you may choose to browse the nearby shops. Next, enjoy lunch before continuing to the mysterious Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This huge circular structure was built in 3 BC to entomb the King and Queen of Mauritania. As you explore, you can observe the influence of the Egyptian pyramids upon its construction. After free time, return to Algiers for a panoramic city drive as you journey back to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
