Old Town of Ragusa by Foot
Landmarks of the “Pearl of the Baroque” Discover the baroque gems of Ragusa during a walking tour of its ancient Old Town. Set in the Hyblaei Hills above the gorge of the Irminio River, Ragusa was originally settled during the 2nd century BC, but much of the city was destroyed during a massive earthquake in 1693. Today, it is renowned for its baroque architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set off with your guide through the narrow streets of Ragusa Ibla, known as the “Pearl of the Baroque,” and immerse yourself in its atmosphere of Antiquity. Admire lush gardens, magnificent palaces and the striking facades of both the churches of San Giuseppe and San Giorgio, the latter built on the site of a ruined temple. You will also stop to view the exterior of Circolo di Conversazione (“Conversation Circle”), a 19th-century gathering spot for the local nobility, before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
