Frasassi Caves
Ancona, Italy

Frasassi Caves

Journey Through Glittering Grottoes and Caverns Embark on a journey into the enchanting Frasassi Caves, a karst cave system celebrated for its dramatic landscapes. Discovered in 1948 by a group of Ancona speleologists, this extensive cavern system is known for its distinctive formations and scientific value. Brimming with mammoth caves, tunnels and traces of ancient life, the system is thought to be more than 4½ miles long. A 650-foot-long artificial tunnel takes visitors to the Ancona Abyss, the Big Cave of Wind and onward along a trail through places such as the Grand Canyon and the Never-Ending Hall, caves studded with stalactites and stalagmites. Despite the outside temperature, the inside of the cave remains at a cool, constant 57 degrees Fahrenheit. After visiting the caves, enjoy free time to shop for a memento of your visit in the gift shop before boarding your motor coach for the return journey to port. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
