Ancient Treasures of Dalmatia

Diocletian Palace, Salona and 18th-Century Mill Discover Dalmatia’s extraordinary ancient sites and sample a selection of local snacks. Begin your exploration at Diocletian’s Palace, one of the most impressive and extraordinary Roman ruins in existence. Built for its namesake emperor at the end of the third century, its arches, walls and columns form half of Split’s old town. See well-preserved basement halls and a cathedral built on the remains of an ancient shrine, considered among the oldest in the world. Then, travel to Croatia’s most important archeological discovery, the ruins of the ancient city of Salona. Walk among amphitheaters, basilicas and mosaics to learn about the emperors, gladiators and citizens who once lived here. Finally, visit Gaspina Mlinica, an 18th-century grain mill run with power from the adjacent Jadro River. Enjoy a local snack here before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
