Magerøya Island Fishing Village
Honningsvåg, Norway

Magerøya Island Fishing Village

Local Art and Tales of Valuable Cold-Water Crustacean Glimpse the region’s rich fishing heritage and learn how it has prospered from its relationship with the sea. You will drive through Honningsvåg to the most scenic fishing village on Magerøya Island, beautifully nestled at the head of a narrow fjord. This pretty hamlet is home to the “Gallery East of the Sun,” which exhibits art, handicrafts and books, all inspired by the island and its ever-changing seasons. The artist will welcome you and explain her unusual works. After, stroll with your guide around the typical fishing wharf and explore on your own. Next, stop at the tiny village of Sarnes, where you will enjoy a small tasting of king crab in a gamme , a traditional structure of the Indigenous Sami people. Hear about the king crabs that thrive in these waters, one of the largest species of crab in the world. After your informative tour, you will return to your ship. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines. Total time walking or standing is normally not longer than 1.5 hours.
