Ascent of Mt. Ulriken
Bergen, Norway

Ascent of Mt. Ulriken

Scenic Bergen, National Romantic Movement and Tea at the Top Combine a tour of the highlights of historic Bergen with a scenic visit to the summit of Mt. Ulriken. A panoramic tour takes you past such attractions as the medieval Bergenhus fortress and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bryggen, the preserved wharf that was central to Bergen’s role in the Hanseatic League. As you travel, learn about national Romanticism, a 19th-century movement that emphasized nature and the uniqueness of Norway’s national identity. A cable car awaits you just outside the affluent suburb of Kalfaret. Conditions permitting, take a seat inside your gondola for a scenic ascent to Mt. Ulriken. At the summit, enjoy a warm beverage accompanied by the famed Ulriken Bun, a cinnamon pastry for which this region is known. Enjoy free time at this 1,000-foot peak before returning to the city to explore on your own. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
