Viking Life in Hardanger

Gamle Kirke and the Ravenheart Hardanger Museum Journey back in time and learn about life in the Viking Age during this immersive excursion. The settlement of Eidfjord dates back to the Iron Age and Viking Era. Meet your guide, dressed in authentic Viking clothing, and set off on foot to Lægreid. Here, archaeologists excavated a 5,000 year old house, one of Norway’s oldest, and the biggest longhouse in Western Norway. Next, head to Gamle Kirke; built in 1309 on the remains of a stave church from the Viking Age, it is one of the first stone churches in Norway. Continue with your guide and walk “In the Footsteps of Vikings” during a visit to Gamlaløo, an exhibition built in an old barn. Here you will view historic artifacts and enjoy a documentary made in collaboration with the University of Bergen, before returning to your ship by foot. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities. Activities by foot may contain difficult, unpaved surfaces and/or multiple stairs and steep inclines. Total time walking or standing may exceed 3 hours.
