The UNESCO Sites of Lisbon

Discover Lisbon’s Treasured Heritage Sites See two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Lisbon: the famed Belém Tower and the renowned Jerónimos Monastery. Drive along the Tagus River to the historic Belém District, stopping at the Belém Tower, a watchtower built in 1515 to defend the harbor entrance; from here, Portuguese explorers set forth on adventures to new worlds. Continue to the impressive Jerónimos Monastery and visit the church, followed by the remarkable cloisters. This jewel of Manueline architecture is noted for its richly sculpted stonework. The monastery represents Portugal’s Golden Age of Discoveries, between the 14th and 16th centuries. Rejoin your coach for a short transfer across the city to the downtown area. Cap your day with a visit to Praça Dom Pedro IV, commonly known as Praça do Rossio (Rossio Square). Always a hive of activity, enjoy a short panoramic drive though the square en route to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
