Bird-Watching & Tagus Estuary
An Internationally Significant Biodiverse Wetland Tour one of Portugal’s biodiverse estuaries, a magnificent location for bird-watching and exploring nature. The Tagus Estuary Nature Reserve, located just 20 minutes from Lisbon, is among the finest. One of the most important wetlands in Europe, it contains mud flats, salt marshes, salt flats, cork oaks, rice fields, pastures and reed beds. Designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, the estuary includes a wide Special Protection Zone created to protect wintering, migratory and breeding populations of aquatic birds. During migratory periods, it is not unusual to observe more than 100 species in a single day, including flamingos, black-shouldered kites, squacco herons and little bustards. Join your nature guide for an exploration and learn more about this important nature reserve. This excursion is primarily a panoramic tour, with occasional stops. Wildlife sightings are likely but not guaranteed; binoculars and a telescope are provided. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
