Kera Monastery & Tzermiado

Historic Religious Site Followed by Lasithi Plateau Landmark Discover the importance of the Kera Monastery and the Lasithi Plateau. Embark on a scenic drive by motor coach through the Cretan countryside to the Kera Monastery. Situated on the northern slopes of Mt. Dikti, this fortified monastery near the village of Kera is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and once housed a precious icon. Tour the stone church, view the Venetian-era frescoes and learn more about its historical significance—it was a base of operations for the Greek resistance during World War II. Travel to the northern edge of the Lasithi Plateau, one of Crete’s most remarkable natural treasures and admire its famous windmills from afar. Continue across the vast open fields of the plateau, passing charming villages en route to picturesque Tzermiado. Here, savor a delicious traditional lunch of Cretan dishes, then return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
