Iceland on Horseback

Horseback Riding on Lava Fields Discover the volcanic landscape of the Hafnarfjörður while riding a purebred Icelandic horse. Transfer to the riding center and receive your riding equipment and a short safety briefing before being introduced to your four-legged riding companion. Icelandic horses are direct descendants of their Viking ancestors; these sturdy animals are known for their sure-footedness and a calm and friendly disposition. Mount up and begin your leisurely ride across the lava fields of Mt. Helgafell and the Kaldarsel area, or to Lake Hvaleyrarvatn. Admire the beauty of this rugged region, where ever-changing lava formations contrast with green meadows as the Bláfjöll Mountains loom in the distance. Keep watch for jets of steam erupting from the ground and learn about the ongoing efforts to reforest the region as you trot through this idyllic countryside. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities. Activities by foot may contain difficult, unpaved surfaces and/or multiple stairs and steep inclines. Total time walking or standing may exceed 3 hours.
