Ancient Corinth & Canal

Important Archaeological Sites and a Famous Waterway Discover one of the most powerful cities of antiquity during a visit to ancient Corinth. Board your motor coach and embark on a one-and-a-half-hour drive to the old city. Vestiges of its importance can be seen in the many archaeological sites that dot its historic streets. Accompanied by your guide, set out on foot to discover iconic landmarks such as the monolithic Doric columns of the Temple of Apollo—dating back to 540 BC, they are among the earliest examples of monumental stone architecture in Greece. After, return to your coach for a short drive to the famous Corinth Canal; plans to build a canal through the Isthmus of Corinth predate the Romans, but the 4-mile long waterway carved through steep limestone was not completed until the late 19th century. After a short stop for photos, you will continue back to your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
