Holy Fátima

Experience This Most Sacred Site Marvel at one of Christendom’s holiest sites on this excursion: the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Fátima. Board your motor coach and set out for the basilica, where, in 1917, the Virgin Mary miraculously appeared to three young shepherds. The area has since become a place of pilgrimage for the devout. Journey with your guide through the fertile plains of the Ribatejo Province, renowned for bullfighting. On arrival in Fátima, visit the basilica and view the tombs of the shepherds who witnessed the Marian apparition. You will also see the new Church of the Santíssima Trindade. Built to seat more than 8,500 worshippers, it is one of the largest churches in the world and features a marble foundation taken from the tomb of St. Peter. You will also pass through the small hamlet of Aljustrel and see the childhood homes of the three shepherds of Fátima. After lunch, return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
