Thessaloníki, Greece

Pella & Edessa Waterfalls

Ancient Capital of Macedonia and Natural Wonder Marvel at the wealth of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia at the site of its ancient capital, Pella. The capital of Macedonia during the time of Alexander the Great, Pella became the de facto capital of Greece during the Hellenistic period. Drive through the scenic Greek plains to the Archaeological Museum of Pella. See an example of early urban planning in the grid-like layout of this ancient city. Admire the colonnades and the beautiful mosaics depicting scenes from Greek mythology and the military glories of Macedonian kings. Walk to the remains of the king’s palace, located on a hill outside the city. Visit the museum and its informative collection of pottery, jewelry and mosaics. Board your motor coach and drive to the picturesque town of Edessa, perched on top of a cliff. See where the Edessaios River forms an impressive waterfall and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
