Te Mata Peak & Wine Tasting
Napier, New Zealand

Te Mata Peak & Wine Tasting

Mountain Landscapes & Local Viticulture Climb Te Mata Peak to enjoy panoramic views of Hawke’s Bay, then indulge in a tasting of locally produced wines. Meet your guide and set out on a scenic hike to Te Mata Peak, named for the legendary giant Te Mata who is said to have tried to bite through the mountain to prove his love to his wife. As you ascend the mountain, you will pass through ancient redwood groves and farmland, perhaps spotting native birdlife along the way, including kererū and tauhou . Your local guide will share insights with you about the history of the mountain and Māori legends, such as the story which gave Te Mata Peak its name. After your hike, descend to a local winery to experience the viticulture of Hawke’s Bay. With its temperate climate and plentiful sunshine, this is New Zealand’s second-largest wine region. Enjoy a wine tasting and a cheese platter before returning to your ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities.
