Penguin Beach at Natures Wonders
Dunedin (Port Chalmers), New Zealand

Penguin Beach at Natures Wonders

Scenic Landscape, Home to the World’s Rarest Penguin Observe the endangered, yellow-eyed penguin in its undisturbed habitat during an excursion to Natures Wonders. Located on the headlands of the picturesque Otago Peninsula, the wildlife reserve’s mission is to protect the penguins, fur seals and other wildlife that call the area home. Embark on a scenic drive to Taiaroa Head at the tip of the peninsula. Here, you will board either an eight-wheel-drive Argo, or a mini-coach (swapping for the return journey), and head off road through the untamed landscape. Viewing Penguin Beach from above, you may be fortunate enough to spot the yellow-eyed penguin—the world’s rarest—recognizable due to the pale-yellow band encircling their heads. You may also see the diminutive blue penguin, seals, sea lions and cormorants. After, enjoy a refreshing tea before returning to Dunedin and your awaiting ship. Please note: wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
