Wildlife Conservation Park & Historic Port Arthur

Exploring the Past on the Tasman Peninsula Learn about native Tasmanian wildlife and delve into the contrasts of the island’s turbulent past. Departing the dock, enjoy a scenic drive through many small towns and communities in the lush, green countryside en route to the Tasman Peninsula. Here, you will have the chance to visit the world’s leading Tasmanian devil center to view and photograph this endangered species, as well as other native Australian wildlife. Next, travel to the Port Arthur Historic Site, a former penal settlement and UNESCO World Heritage Site. More than 10,000 convicts were transported here from England during the 40 years the prison was in use, and it was these same prisoners who eventually became the settlers of this new land. Enjoy a barbecue lunch, then follow your knowledgeable guide through this carefully restored historic site. Then, you will have free time to explore the fascinating ruins at your leisure. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
