Sekotong Village & Cocotinos Beach

Grass Roof Thatch-Making and Tropical Beach Delight Learn how to make a grass roof and then soak up the tropical sun while relaxing on Lombok’s soft, pearl-white sand. Immense, domed grass roofs are a distinctive feature of Lombok architecture. In the village of Sekotong, you will be taken to a roofing factory, where workers produce the island’s thatched roofs from woven kunai grass—locally known as alang-alang grass—and rice straw. Inside the factory, you will see how the grass is bundled, woven and shaped into panels to be ready for creating Lombok thatch. Then, visit one of the island’s finest white-sand beaches, Cocotinos Beach, to enjoy a relaxing swim or sunbath or some beachcombing. Here, in the protected bays and the crystal clear blue waters of the Lombok Strait, you can enjoy pure relaxation. Glide over the colorful corals or gaze up at the backdrop of lush green mountains and relish in this pure tropical delight. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
