Scenic Nagasaki
A Resilient City of Hope and Faith Experience a rare blend of East and West in Nagasaki, an inspirational city where monuments of peace embrace optimism. Begin your excursion with a short guided drive to the Nagasaki Peace Park, a symbolic site commemorating the victims of the atomic bomb of August 9, 1945. Its grounds contain a large fountain, statues and sculptures donated by countries and artists around the world, each dedicated to world harmony. Spend contemplative time as you view the park's many monuments, then continue your journey past the Roman Catholic Urakami Cathedral, once the largest in East Asia. On the way back to your ship, you will also view Dejima, an artificial island built to house Portuguese and Dutch traders—once a standalone piece of land and Japan's only window to the western world, it has since been linked to the mainland via land reclamation and was declared a National Historic Site in 1922. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines. Total time walking or standing is normally not longer than 1.5 hours.
