Kachemak Bay’s Highlights
Sail the Scenic Waters of Alaska Explore Kachemak Bay and take in this remote region that is brimming with wildlife and breathtaking nature. At the pier, board your vessel and venture out into the waters of this inlet. Sail past the Homer Spit, a remnant of a glacier and now a peninsula, that extends out into the bay. Then, set course for Gull Island, one of the area’s largest bird rookeries, where more than 10,000 birds roost. Observe the nesting birds from your vessel and learn about their migratory patterns. Continue through Eldred Passage and past Tutka Bay, admiring the verdant landscape dotted with mountains and trees, while keeping an eye out for a chance to glimpse local wildlife, including seals and otters. On your search for wildlife, meander past Yukon and Hesketh islands to take in their rocky, forested beauty before sailing back across Kachemak Bay to the Homer Spit and harbor. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines.
