Treasures of Rome Along the Tiber River

See a Side of Rome You Never Knew Uncover the best of Rome’s charming hidden gems during visits to several historic landmarks. Begin at the Aventino, an oasis whose Savello Park includes an orange grove and the Basilica di Santa Sabina. At Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta, peek through the Priory door’s bronze keyhole for a perfectly framed view of St. Peter’s Basilica. Walk down the Aventino to the Basilica di Santa Maria in Cosmedin, home to a medieval carving: the Bocca della Verità. Legend says that if you place your hand in its mouth and tell a lie, the jaws will snap shut. Next, cross the Tiber river to reach the Basilica of St. Cecilia and visit its crypt. Perhaps enjoy lunch at an inviting trattoria before reconvening at the pre-medieval Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of Rome’s oldest churches. After time to explore, return to your ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities. Activities by foot may contain difficult, unpaved surfaces and/or multiple stairs and steep inclines. Total time walking or standing may exceed 3 hours.
