Thompson Pass Hike
Valdez, Alaska, United States

Thompson Pass Hike

Alaskan Landscapes and Panoramic Views Join a guided trek along the Thompson Pass Loop to discover its alpine lakes and sweeping mountain views. Standing tall at 2,678 feet, Thompson Pass is the highest year-round highway pass in Alaska, offering access to one of Valdez’s most scenic alpine trails. Begin your journey with a short drive by motor coach from the pier to receive your gear, then travel through dramatic Keystone Canyon to reach the trailhead. The Thompson Pass Loop begins on the remnants of an old road canal, which historically carried water for mining operations. Set out along the trail, passing by crystal-clear alpine lakes and remnants of the region’s early mining history. As you ascend, take in the views of the Chugach Mountains and the Richardson Highway below. After completing the loop, make your descent and return to your coach for the journey back to your awaiting ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities. Activities by foot may contain difficult, unpaved surfaces and/or multiple stairs and steep inclines. Total time walking or standing may exceed 3 hours.
