The “Birthplace of Canada”

Visit the Historic Site that Marks the Founding of Canada Visit the site recognized as the “Birthplace of Canada” to commemorate the landing of Jacques Cartier in 1534. Meet your guide and drive to the Berceau du Canada, a historic site marking the arrival of Jacques Cartier on North American shores—an event that laid the foundation for future exploration and settlement. During a guided visit, explore its living museum featuring reconstructed buildings that reflect 20th-century village life, including the Baker’s Tavern, a traditional Mi’kmaq wigwam, the Horatio LeBoutillier House and the iconic Gaspé Cross, planted by Cartier to claim the land for King Francis I of France. Engage with interactive exhibits and costumed interpreters who bring history to life, offering insights into the daily experiences of early settlers and Indigenous communities. After your enriching visit, return to your motor coach for the scenic drive back to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
