Costa Rican Agriculture & Exports
Coffee, Cacao and Bananas Travel to a sustainable farm in the countryside where you will learn about Costa Rica’s rich agricultural history. The warm climate and fertile soils of Costa Rica mean that almost ten percent of the land is used for agriculture. After a safety briefing, head to the coffee plantations to learn about the country’s oldest agricultural product, which has been exported since the 18th century. See cacao trees and discover how their pods are transformed into chocolate. At the banana plantations, learn about small Creole bananas and red bananas, softer and sweeter than their yellow counterparts. Next, continue to a sugar mill for a demonstration and a taste of fresh guarapo before visiting the farm to meet Watusi cattle, miniature cows and more. End your excursion with an equestrian show and a selection of refreshments, including passion fruit juice and fresh pineapple. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines. Total time walking or standing is normally not longer than 1.5 hours.
