Traditions of Corfu’s Old Town

Soap Factory of Patounis, Market Visit and Casa Parlante Museum Discover the heritage, traditions and sights of Corfu during a guided walk through the streets of its Old Town. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this historic quarter is a maze of medieval buildings and winding pedestrian streets dating back to the 18th century. Meet your guide and begin your walk in Spilia, the first main entrance to the Old Town and an atmospheric labyrinth of narrow alleyways and steep stairs. Visit the Soap Factory of Patounis; family-owned for more than a century, it still produces handcrafted soaps using traditional methods. At the bustling open air market, enjoy Greek meze (small plates) and ouzo, an aniseed-spiced aperitif, before heading into the heart of the Old Town. See the famous Liston arcade and the soaring bell tower of St. Spyridon Church en route to the Casa Parlante museum. Here, you will learn about the life of Corfu’s 19th-century nobility through the museum’s lively and informative exhibits. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
