Arkadia Monastery & Rethymnon’s Old Town

Visit A Baroque Church and A Charming Old Town Call at the Arkadi Monastery and discover the historic district of Rethymnon, which dates to the 16th century. Begin with a guided drive along coastal roads to reach the Arkadi Monastery, perched high atop a plateau. See the Venetian-baroque detail of its stone-white church, a fortress-like complex which once provided refuge for townspeople and served as a scholar’s haven of science and art. After time to appreciate this sacred site, return to your motor coach and continue to the welcoming seaside town of Rethymnon. Here, you will set out to explore on foot with your guide. Pass by the Venetian Loggia, charming arched doorways, stone staircases, Venetian and Ottoman-era remains and the small harbor before pausing for lunch at a local restaurant. After, you will have free time to discover more on your own before beginning the journey back to your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
