Kennebecasis River & Maple Sugar Bush
Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada

Kennebecasis River & Maple Sugar Bush

Authentic Experience to Sample Sweet Treat Explore Saint John’s history, cross the Kennebecasis River by cable ferry and tour a maple farm. Experience the splendor of the scenic Kennebecasis River on one of the last remaining cable ferries in New Brunswick, as you soak up the beauty and stories of the Kingston Peninsula. Explore Elmhurst Outdoors, a small family run maple sugar farm, for an enlightening maple sugar bush tour. Here, you will gain insight into the history and development of maple sugaring, from early Native American practices to today’s methods, through informative displays. After your tour, indulge in a warm meal of homemade pancakes, sausage and a pure maple syrup back at the lodge. Then wrap up your experience with a local tradition; maple taffy on snow—where the temperature of the snow is used to set the boiling syrup, resulting in a toffee-like candy. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
