Holyhead Heritage & Breakwater Country Park

Tracing Holyhead’s History Uncover the rich history of this port town with visits to a 6th-century church, war memorial and more. Begin your journey at the Celtic Gateway Bridge. Built in 2006, its sweeping lines evoke the tusks of a woolly mammoth jawbone discovered during the 19th century. It features an array of artwork, including bronze plaques built into the paving and a series of Venetian glass mosaics by artist Gary Drostle. Walk along the bridge and continue to St Cybi’s Church, built in 540 AD within the remains of an ancient Roman fort. Explore nearby landmarks, including the Chapel of the Grave, then head to Holyhead Breakwater Country Park, nestled at the foothills of Holyhead Mountain. Enjoy views of this 19th-century engineering marvel and learn about its history at the information center. Join a guided trail walk or sit back and relax at the on-site café. After, return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
