Derry on Foot

City Walls and Gothic Architecture Explore Derry on a guided excursion where you will learn about the city’s history and see important sights. Climb aboard your motor coach for a short drive to the walled city of Londonderry, more commonly known as Derry. Here, you will meet your guide and set out on a voyage of discovery. Walk along the 25-foot-high walls that surround the city, built during the 17th century to defend against invaders. These walls were never breached, giving Derry its nickname, “The Maiden City.” From the top of the walls you will see the Bogside and its famous mural that announces, “You are now entering free Derry.” You will also admire the Gothic architecture of the Guildhall with its stained glass windows illustrating Derry’s history. Along the way, your guide will share insights about the area. Afterward, continue to a local pub for refreshments, before returning to your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
