Corfe Castle & Swanage by Steam Train

Medieval Ruins and a Scenic Seafront Travel through the rolling hills of Dorset to call at the ruins of Corfe Castle and the seaside town of Swanage. Embark on a picturesque drive toward the dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle, set atop a hill. Upon arrival, meet your guide and explore this historic site on foot, learning about the original wooden Norman castle and the years that it spent as a royal treasure storehouse and prison. Your guide will share insights about the 16th-century sale of the castle and the sieges it came under by Parliamentarian forces, leading to its fall in 1645 and subsequent destruction by demolition. Then, continue to a local eatery to enjoy lunch before heading to the railway station to board your steam train to Swanage. Stroll through this vibrant seaside town, once a small port and fishing village, before boarding your motor coach for the return journey to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
