Sheepdogs & Storytelling

Visit a Working Sheep Farm and Hear Stories of Irish History Work with sheepdogs on Glenshane Farm and visit a historic restaurant to learn about Ireland’s Great Famine. Located on the Glenshane Pass, one of the highest mountain roads in Ireland, this working sheep farm offers spectacular views of Slieve Gallion, the Mournes and Slemish Mountain, where Saint Patrick is said to have shepherded as a young man. Meet your host and head to the fields, where you will learn how to issue instructions to the talented sheepdogs at Glenshane Farm and help herd the flock. Then, continue to Friel’s Historic Bar and Restaurant to enjoy lunch. This award-winning establishment was once a soup kitchen during the 19th century. View the original famine pot and step into the past at the adjoining visitor’s center, where you will learn about the history of an Gorta Mór , or the Great Famine. Then, return to your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines.
