Healesville Sanctuary on Your Own
A Haven for Endangered Species Visit the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary and discover Australia’s native wildlife in their natural habitat. Travel by motor coach through the vast rural landscape and into the Australian bush to reach the sanctuary, one of only two places in Australia to have successfully bred a platypus and implement a well-established breeding program. Upon arrival, you will be provided with a lunch hamper, which you can enjoy at your leisure during your independent exploration of the grounds. During your visit, you will meet some of the zoo’s residents and learn about the zoo’s mission to conserve some of Australia’s most endangered wildlife—thousands of injured native animals are treated here each year, and the sanctuary runs state-wide conservation breeding and recovery programs with other zoos in the area. After your visit, return to your coach and onward to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
