Experience Hobbiton:Lord of the Rings&The Hobbit
A Visit to the Shire Immerse yourself in the world of The Lord of the Rings at the Hobbiton movie set. In 1998, Sir Peter Jackson’s scouting team sought the perfect location to film their movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic trilogy. An aerial search led them to Alexander Farm, a stunning sheep farm in the heart of Waikato. They were astonished by the rolling hills and lush pastures that, according to set director Alan Lee, were the perfect setting for the movies. Journey past the colorful hobbit hole doors, including the iconic Bag End, home of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, before arriving at Bagshot Row for a glimpse of a humble hobbit dwelling. Then, enjoy complimentary refreshments at the charming Green Dragon Inn and time to browse the gift shop or grab a bite at The Shire’s café before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines.
