Tahune AirWalk & Boats of Huon Pine
Treetop Vistas and Wooden Boat Centre Enjoy striking views over the forest and discover the traditional craft of wooden boat building. Take a scenic drive through the countryside en route to the Tahune AirWalk, an elevated steel walkway located in the Tahune Forest Reserve. Reaching as high as 160 feet in some places, it offers striking views of the surrounding forest and the Huon and Picton Rivers as you walk above the treetops. Following lunch, travel to the town of Franklin, set along the banks of the Huon River and the home to the Wooden Boat Centre, a school dedicated to preserving the traditional craft of wooden boat building. In the workshop, learn about the history of this specialist industry, see traditional hand tools and look at the works in progress. Gain insight into the timbers that are found exclusively in Tasmania and hear tales about local maritime history. After, return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
