Rural Life in the Tukituki River Valley

Farming Traditions Amid Stunning Landscapes Experience life on a New Zealand goat station and sheep farm and take in spectacular coastal and mountain scenery. Your outing begins with a drive along Napier’s tree-lined Marine Parade, then proceeds along the coast to the Tukituki Dairy Goats, a family-run farm that is home to sheep, chicken, cattle and goats. Spend time getting close to the animals—if your visit coincides with spring time, you may even see signs of new life at the farm. After, you will get to observe how sheep are expertly shorn and watch a sheepdog and their master in action during a demonstration, where you will see how the flock is kept in line. Then, relax over a morning tea served with fresh milk from the farm, and engage in conversation with your hosts. After, you will travel back to Napier via the coast, with striking views of the 1,300-foot-high Te Mata Peak en route back to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
