Royal Albatross Centre
Observe Majestic Seabirds at Rare Mainland Colony Discover the world’s only mainland albatross colony during a visit to the Royal Albatross Centre. Nestled at the foot of scenic Taiaroa Head, the center is home to approximately 250 Northern Royal Albatrosses. Embark on a panoramic drive by motor coach, passing charming towns along Otago Harbour’s shores and important landmarks in Dunedin en route to the colony. Upon arrival, receive an informative introduction to the albatross before taking a short walk uphill to the glass observatory. Here, you will be able to view these fascinating birds without disturbing them or their environment. Observe their intriguing social life and behavior; while seeming ungainly on the ground, they are magnificent to watch in flight. Admire them as they go airborne, using their nearly 10-foot wingspan to gracefully glide upon the ocean wind currents. Afterward, you will return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
